GradDip Pastoral Counselling

Raised in a small farming community I first started working in the human services field in the early 90’s as a youth worker in Western Queensland.  Since that time I have had a varied career encompassing owning businesses in the farming and media sectors.  A family tragedy in 2004 triggered a chain of events that led me back into human services and I trained to be a counsellor.  I firmly believe in the restorative nature of God, and while my practice embraces many accepted therapeutic interventions, I ensure these are applied within the framework of orthodox Christian Theology.

Experience

After attaining a Diploma of Counselling and a Certificate IV in Alcohol & Other Drugs, I commenced work within two separate residential AOD treatment facilities operating under differing treatment philosophies.   Due to the complex nature of addiction and its many associated behavioural and mental health issues, I gained invaluable insight and experience that still serves me to this day.  I have gone on to study further with Charles Sturt University and St Marks National Theological College in Canberra and you find me today in private practice under the banner of Christian Counselling Townsville.

My Work Process

While each individual requires counselling that is tailored specifically to his or her needs, I approach most sessions in a similar manner that is very conversational and as relaxed as possible.  It’s my role to assist each person to clearly identify the goals they wish to achieve from the counselling process and then to work towards those goals.  We will draw from various treatment models and work at a pace that is appropriate to the needs of the client, changing modalities when necessary to achieve better outcomes.
